Every fortnight our small tight-knit gang known as the Crafty Kittens convenes to stitch and laugh ourselves silly. The order of proceedings usually goes a little something like this: we arrive bearing bags of wool, needles, and miscellaneous accoutrements, exchange pleasantries and unravel the past fortnight, then sit down to eat and discuss our latest ideas. After dinner we settle in and get to work on our projects, and as the night progresses the stitches loosen, as does the conversation, often resulting in hysterical laughter (and I know what you’re thinking – but no, minimal booze is consumed), leaving us on a high at the end of the night.
In a life dominated by digital media and online networking, it’s truly a joy to cast aside the gadgetry and connect with like-minded crafters. If every man needs a shed, then I say every woman needs a craft club.
